Recently, Allianz Life held its Annual Spirit of Summer Giving Campaign at it’s Golden Valley, MN location. During the campaign, Allianz employees were encouraged to bring food for Keystone’s food shelves and in return were offered tickets to the May 20 Minnesota United FC soccer match. The MN United Loons’ new stadium, Allianz Field, is under construction in St. Paul’s Midway neighborhood and will be opening in 2019. At the May 20 match, MN United soccer fans were encouraged to contribute food or cash donations to help stock Keystone’s food shelves for the upcoming summer months.
In total, Allianz and MN United fans generously donated over 8,000 pounds of food and $30,500 for Keystone’s food shelves.
“The collaboration and generosity of Allianz Life and MN United is what makes our community so wonderful,” Mary McKeown, Keystone’s president said. “This donation will help us provide food for thousands of people who visit our food shelves. We are so thankful for this partnership and are excited to have Allianz and MN United as neighbors when Allianz Field officially opens.”
At the May 20 match, Minnesota United presented its L’Étoile Du Nord (Star of the North) award to Keystone’s volunteer, Pete Morin. The award is presented to community members who embody the core values of the club – resilience, inclusivity, dedication, teamwork and respect. Pete Morin has been a valued member of Keystone’s volunteer team since 2009. He works at our Midway and Rice Street food shelf sites, receiving donations and deliveries and helping our participants shop in the food shelf.
“Throughout the nine years I have worked with Pete, he has always had an overwhelmingly positive attitude,” said Christine Pulver, Director of Basic Needs at Keystone. “He understands the importance and impact of our services in the community and provides help to all of our participants without judgement. He is very deserving of this honor.”
