Keystone Community Services is participating in the Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless Food Shelf Challenge Grant

Posted Friday, July 27, 2018

Keystone Community Services and Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless announce the Eighth Annual Food Shelf Challenge Grant. Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless will proportionally match donations to food shelves, like Keystone’s, during the month of July, up to $4,000. The more funds Keystone raises in July, the larger the matching grant from Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless will be. In 2017, Minnesota food shelves raised over $1.5 million participating in this grant challenge and hope to raise even more this year.

Minnesota summers were made for trips to the cabin, boat rides on the lake, not food shelf visits. But that is the reality for thousands of Minnesotans. In June, Keystone offered food support to 7,262 individuals through our food shelves and Foodmobile  — this is the second highest service month so far this year. We know the summer months are some of the busiest times at our food shelves because children are home from school and the family budget is tight. Keystone’s food shelves help provide nutritious fruits and vegetables to these families and needs your help this summer. Donations given in July will be proportionally matched by Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless to help end hunger in our community.

Thank you Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless and Hunger Solutions Minnesota.

Since 1986, Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless has targeted millions of dollars to strategically fight hunger in Minnesota. Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless funds the purchase and transfer of more than one million pounds of fresh produce, meat, and dairy products to food shelves every year. Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless also provides grants for food shelves and food banks to get the equipment they need—like freezers, shelving and trucks—to be able to serve the growing number of Minnesotans who can’t afford enough food for their families.
